Who We Are

Staff

SYM is run by four, full-time, paid staff and over 100 dedicated volunteer staff members. SYM staff and volunteers provide a consistent, loving presence in the chaotic lives of youth-in-crisis. The development of healthy relationships and experiences instill strength in a youth's ability to cope with often overwhelming challenges. As these young people begin making positive choices, they start believing there is a better life available to them.

Shelly Smith
Executive Director

Shelly Smith joined Street Youth Ministries in March 2003 as the Executive Director. She has more than 10 years of professional experience working with area non-profit organizations. Her breadth of experience and leadership has poised SYM to make significant growth in years to come. Shelly completed her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University in 2000.

Rowena A. Harper
Development/Volunteer Manager

Rowena Harper joined SYM in September of 2004 and brings 10 years of non-profit experience in the Seattle area. Her heart for people combined with a diverse background in program and resource development bring just the right mix of skills to provide care and wisdom to SYM's volunteer and development programs.

Tyler Bauer
Program Manager

Tyler has been with Street Youth Ministries since October 2001. A graduate of Whitworth College with a B.A. in Religion and a Minor in Psychology, he has been working with young people for the past six years and is extremely gifted in his ability to communicate with and care for the youth SYM serves.

Lindsey Nutting
Case Manager

Lindsey joined Street Youth Ministries in October, 2006 after serving as a volunteer for two years and as a summer intern in 2006. Lindsey’s primary focus at SYM is to assist youth find resources as they navigate their way toward health and healing. Lindsey holds a BSW from the University of Washington.
